The AFC West typically hosts some of the best and worst teams in the NFL. With the Denver Broncos taking two super bowls in the 90′s and then regressing into a mediocre team. The San Diego Chargers are almost always in the playoffs but have still yet to convert that into a winning season. We’ve come up with predictions for the AFC West.

From the outset, it seems pretty clear that San Diego will clinch the division. The only possible contention would come from the Oakland Raiders as their defense has been improving at an alarming rate. San Diego came out of the gate week one with a strong win. This bodes well for their season. However, the prediction ends there as the Chargers will not win the super bowl.

The Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs will toil around mediocrity. They are never the worst teams in the league, but clearly need some work this year to keep up with the others in their division. Denver’s new head coach isn’t going to help anything.

The Oakland Raiders could surprise everyone with a great season this year. With a so-so win over Denver in the opening week they will have to step up their game to make an impact on the NFL.

The NFC North, or as some affectionately call it, the “Norris division”, consistently churns out some of the most exciting playoff races the NFL has to offer. Last year, the North even produced the eventual Superbowl champs, the Green Bay Packers. Here is what to look for from the North teams this season:

Green Bay Packers: The Pack proved last season they are capable of winning it all, and that was AFTER being hit with the injury bug. This season, with their full roster healthy once again, expect more of the same. Prediction — 12 – 4

Minnesota Vikings: The quarterback woes’ for the Vikings are still in full effect, and the rest of the team isn’t getting any younger. Expect another year of mediocrity in Minnesota. Best case scenario? Wild Card birth. Prediction — 8-8

Chicago Bears: The Bears, who epitomize the phrase “million dollar defense and a two cent offense”, look to be headed toward the middle of the pack with the Vikings. Prediction — 8-8

Detroit Lions: The Lions have a lot of young, talented players – especially on the offensive side of the ball – but overall they are too green to challenge. Prediction — 7 – 9

The teams comprising the NFC South had solid seasons last year — besides the Panthers of course. This year it is safe to expect more of the same for the most part.

Atlanta Falcons: Never has a team went 14 – 2 in a regular season and still received such little attention. This year’s squad won’t win 14 games, but they will still be very strong, especially after bolstering their defense with a couple key additions. Prediction — 12 – 4

New Orleans Saints: One year removed from a Superbowl victory, an extremely talented and well coached roster remains. Oh, and that Drew Brees guy is still pretty good. Expect a solid season once again in NOLA. Prediction — 11 – 5

Tampa Bay Buccaneers: One of the true surprises of last season, the Bucs were thisclose to making the playoffs. Going into this season look for them to address the defense, their main issue of last season. Prediction — 9 – 7

Carolina Panthers: The Cam Newton Express is leaving the station. Rookie quarterbacks are known for shaky performances, to expect much from him this early would unfair and unwarranted. Look for a rough year in Carolina. Prediction — 3 – 13Want to know more?

The NFC East is home to some of the biggest rivalries in all of sports, look for a few of them to renewed this season.

Philadelphia Eagles: With Michael Vick freshly inked to a long-term deal, the team now needs to take care of WR Desean Jackson to clear the locker room of any distractions. The team bolstered is secondary significantly this off-season, look for that to pay dividends. Prediction — 12 – 4

Dallas Cowboys: America’s Team disappointed greatly last season, look for them to attempt to right the ship courtesy of a plethora of coaching and roster changes. The secondary is still a big question mark heading into the season. Prediction — 10 – 6

New York Giants: The Giants have collapsed and missed the playoffs for the last two seasons, I wouldn’t expect any different this year either. While the team as a whole is still very talented, the chemistry just isn’t there anymore. Prediction — 8 – 8

Washington Redskins: The prospects for the ‘Skins this season are not good. The defense is in shambles and the starting QB shouldn’t be. Mike Shanahan has his work cut out for him in the nation’s capital. Prediction — 6 – 10
